Persepolis - Snippets (April 13th)
I find how Marji deals with the war and her obvious dislike towards the Iraqis quite interesting. It's been discussed how Marji acts wise for her age, but her language and actions when the war first breaks out is sort of disturbing. The fact that a child would be that eager about bombing another country & killing thousands, no matter how horrible those people have been to her country...it almost takes away Marji's innocence. I'm curious as to whether or not this makes Marji's character more child like because she could just be scared and attempting to act tough. Or if it makes her almost the opposite because her obvious resentment is scary and quite sad. Something I really loved on page 76 of Persepolis was how the mother's face was darkened on her left side, as if the mother has somewhat of a rebellious and dangerous side. The reader has already been informed of the mother's thoughts but the drawing depicts it much more efficiently.
