Persepolis-May 5th

 Class Act:

Last class we had many great and detailed discussions about Persepolis. I learned a lot through the discussions and many interesting ideas were brought up. My favourite idea, which came up pretty much the entire class, was about reflections. The class was very productive and we were told to come up with themes of the book. The theme our table discussed and thought appropriate was People do not change until faced with crisis. I pointed out that it was interesting because our theme had the word faced and were talking a lot about mirrors and u face mirrors. That was very interesting and we noticed that mirrors can be a motif because we see scenes with Marjane looking into a mirror over and over. We began to look for all the occurrences when Marjane was looking or reflecting into a mirror and ended up finding many time when this happened. It showed up on pages 46, 151,186, 200, 245,291,315 and 317. We found this interesting because we noticed that most times when she does look directly into the mirror she is often reflecting on herself about a mistake she made just a few pages earlier. It was interesting to see her reflect on life as that is what she is doing by writing the book in many ways.
