Persepolis April 24th

This book is definitely getting more interesting as we keep reading and there are many parts I find quite interesting and strange as well. One part that struck me in this part of the book is how excited Marjane is when she receives stuff which she should not have and could get arrested for. She receives posters, CD's, a jacket and new Nike shoes and she feels like the luckiest girl in the world and it is interesting how when you have a limited amount of things you seem to value them that much more. Though she has access to all of this stuff she knows very well that is illegal and therefore is very cautious and gracious that she has all of this stuff. For children living in this society now we have all of the stuff she does as well and we like it a lot but we do not value it as much as she does and would not care if anything happened to it because we are given so much freedom with our stuff that we easily become 'sick' of our stuff. Another part in this section that was very interesting was when Marjane see's her friend's house bombed and see's the bracelet she had given her friend still on her arm in the pile of burnt objects and bodies. It was very sad and incredible to find out that someone as young as her had to see there own friend in that situation because it is difficult for adults to bear such sights and for a child it could scar them for life. Marjane is frightened by the sight but she takes it well and is shown as a very strong and brave girl in this scene much like in the rest of the book.

i agree with your ideas but i
i agree with your ideas but i would like to point out that Neda's bracelet was actually given to her by her aunt for her 14th birthday, not Marji herself.
Great ideas!
Great ideas I agree with ourselves having the chance to be free and do what ever we want to do with our stuff, with our life and with ourselves. We eventually get sick of the stuff we have and that is a point I agree with. I believe that the portrayal of Marji after she say Neda's bracelet and hand under the rebel made myself feel that she was still a young girl and that it would be a horrible sight to witness this situation at such a young age. Do you think that this situation has assisted her in maturing throught the graphic novel?
