Pinhole Camera Reflection- Josh
Submitted by joshuag on Wed, 2010-05-19 08:34I thought during the experiment (the picture taking, and removing of the film) all went well. But at the beginning of the experiment we found that our original camera was too small so we ended up using another grade 8 student's camera. We believe that the pictures taken were good but we are yet to find out whether the camera was completely light proof. Other than that the removing of the film went well as no one in the room accidentally turned on the lights. We took a total of 3 pictures outside and probably could have took more if we did not have to wait for the other group to remove their film. But other then that me and Rafe are extremely excited to see the pictures. =/

Garbage Pollution
Submitted by joshuag on Wed, 2010-03-31 08:04Garbage water pollution:
There are environmental laws against it, although people still do it. It is a simple concept really, it consists of putting garbage in a body of water. Despite the simple process, it damages the environment and sometimes kills animals. The six - pack rings for pop and beer can suffocate and kill turtles. However, some waste provides habitats for some animals. You should not put waste in water.

Aquifers - Galen&Josh
Submitted by joshuag on Wed, 2010-03-03 09:21Aquifers are underground storage areas that contain water. These water sources can be very useful to people as fresh water can be drawn from the underground with wells.

This image below shows how water will be underground at a certain depth if the ground is permeable enough to hold water.

Most of the ground you walk on will have water under it. Although you may not notice it. There are two parts of the aquifers, the saturated zone, and the unsaturated zone. The saturated zone is completely saturated with water while the unsaturated zone has very little water compared to the saturated zone. (Below)

Entry to "What Are Some of the Properties of a Fluid?"
Submitted by joshuag on Wed, 2010-01-27 09:38Plasma!
Plasma is basically like Gas but the plasmas are made out of free electrons and ions. Plasmas are not that common aswell, commonly known plasmas are the Northern Lights. Other good examples of plasmas are florescent light bulbs, stars in the sky, and neon signs. Plasmas are typically created inside these things when a type of gas meets electricity.
Permafrost!
Permafrost is soil below freezing point for longer then 2 years. Most permafrost is located in high altitudes, probably as a result of the low temperatures. Permafrost apparently, according to Wikipedia, covers 24% of the Northern Hemisphere. Many construction sights have been located on Permafrost and due to the heat of the building and pipes, it melted the permafrost and caused the building to sink. It has been calculated that it would take about 1 year to get about 4.4 metres of permafrost, and 350 years to get 79.9 metres into the ground of permafrost.
Liquid Oxygen!
Liquid Oxygen is pale blue and is ''very'' cold. It boils at -183degrees celcius (-297degrees F). Normal air typically has 21% oxygen. But inhilation of air with 80% oxygen causes irritation of the respitory track. And pure oxygen causes pulmidary irritation and edema after 24 hours. Liquid oxygen is extremely harmful when in contact with bare skin, as it can cause severe burns. Also, due to the low temperature of liquid oxygen, it can cause construction materials to become brittle and potentially shatter.
